As it leaves the factory, your cargo compartment is like an empty room. To achieve maximum functionality and help you improve your efficiency at work, your van needs to be fitted out to meet your logistical needs and to suit the cargo you plan to carry. This can be achieved by:

• installing racking on both sides and on the bulkhead if necessary
• installing racking only on one side
• installing only liners and a few accessories, particularly cargo retaining accessories
• installing partitions to create separate compartment

The van presented on this page falls under this last scenario. It is a Ford Transit L2 H2 owned by a provincial police force.

In this Transit for the provincial police, Syncro has arranged the interior space in a highly unconventional way, dividing it up to provide separate areas for different functions.

Intended use: Transport of police equipment, rescue and movement of animals, and patrols, inspections, surveys and environmental checks within the force’s territory.

Primary requirement: To keep the cargo area and office area separate.

Solution: A partition wall to divide the cargo compartment in two. The storage and cargo transport area is located at the rear of the van, while the office area is located behind the driver’s cab.

Let’s examine the strategies adopted in greater detail, starting with the interior liners.

This unique configuration required a large number of liners to be installed in the Transit.

The entire floor is covered with a birch plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface.

The liner’s exposed edges at the rear and side doors are protected by steel profiles.

The walls and doors are lined with anodised aluminium panels while the bulkhead is protected by aluminium chequer plate.

The partition wall dividing the two interior areas consists of plywood panelling with a marble-look finish on both sides and an aluminium profile at the bottom.

Other lining solutions for the Transit

Let’s take a closer look at the Transit’s rear section, which is designed to carry police equipment and cages for rescuing and moving wild animals.

The space here is divided vertically by a raised floor in marble-look plywood, supported by a robust metal frame and fixed to steel slider bars at the sides.

An aluminium slide with a load capacity of up to 150 kg has been fixed to the underside of this floor and can be pulled out by pressing a convenient release button in the middle of its ergonomic handle. A tray holding an Ecoflow Delta Pro power station is mounted alongside the right-hand wheel arch. The Ecoflow unit itself is connected to a wiring system that supplies electrical power to both areas of the van.

Two identical columns of racking are installed facing each other on top of the floor, each containing three shelves with internal dividers and anti-slip mats.

All three areas into which Syncro has divided the cargo compartment are illuminated by powerful, energy-efficient LED tube lights.

The area of the Transit between the partition and the cab, accessible through the sliding side door, has been transformed into a small office. A generous corner desk made from aluminium profiles and marble-look plywood panels runs across the partition and part of the side wall. A Syncro locker with a double latch locking mechanism is installed in the inside corner and fitted with two shelves and three metal drawers.

A fold-away table is attached to the bulkhead. A 2200W diesel heater with swivelling vents makes the area comfortable to use in cold weather.
