A FORD TRANSIT FOR SERVICE STATION ASSISTANCE

A Transit L2 H2 with racking for service station assistance

Why is a mobile workshop indispensable for technical assistance companies?

Providing technical support is very often a race against the clock. In this case we are talking about assistance for petrol stations, where so many things can go wrong. Faulty charging columns, blocked payment systems, malfunctioning car washes... every minute of downtime translates into financial loss for the operator and inconvenience for customers. The sooner help arrives, and the better organised it is, the sooner the problems can be solved and the service station returned to full functionality.

Technicians inevitably travel in a van, so transforming the cargo compartment into an efficient mobile workshop is a strategic necessity, not a luxury.

  • When you have everything at your fingertips, you waste no more time returning home to fetch things, and every minute saved adds to your efficiency.
  • On-board work areas are essential for testing equipment, undertaking repairs and changing settings. And if everything you need is to hand, there’s no need to go outside and get soaked by the rain.

Let’s look more closely at this mobile workshop installed by Syncro System in a Transit L2 H2 owned by a service station maintenance company.

Syncro’s approach to transforming a van always starts with a consultation in which the customer and Syncro’s technical experts discuss requirements. The customer sets out his needs and explains the nature of his work while the Syncro team proposes possible solutions to suit the make and model of vehicle.

The customer in this case installs and maintains turnkey service station systems, and asked Syncro to transform his Transit L2 H2 into a mobile workshop. Racking has been installed on all three interior walls, with the sides configured for storage and the bulkhead as a workshop area.

Liners: the obligatory starting point

A good racking system always begins with proper liners. For this Transit, the customer requested only basic protection in the form of a plywood floor linerwith a marble-look finish. This provides a perfectly flat, durable and walkable surface. At the doors, it is reinforced with protective stainless-steel profiles to prevent dirt and moisture from penetrating into the plywood.

Simple yet functional racking on both sides of the Transit

The racking system in this Transit is dominated by shelving. The simple but superbly practical shelf is chosen by the vast majority of Syncro customers and is included in nearly all racking systems for its great versatility.

The configurations on the right and left of this van are very similar, except that the left of the vehicle is equipped with two columns providing a total of 10 configurable shelves, all with non-slip mats in the bottom, internal space dividers and raised rear panels. On the right, due to the presence of the sliding door, there is room for only one column, which is fitted with a total of six shelves, including one at the very top.

On the left, the top position is occupied by a full-length top tray with an access door at the rear and a perforated bottom. Also on this side is the only accessory installed on the Transit: a paper roll holder fixed to the rear-facing racking side panel.

The floor-level compartments on both sides are delimited by front bottom panels but are otherwise open.

Note that the depth of the shelves is reduced towards the top of the van. This is done to follow the contours of the bodywork while keeping the front of the racking perfectly in line. The ability to combine side panels of different depths in the same column is one of the factors that makes Syncro racking so flexible and modular.

The work area at the Transit’s bulkhead

A workbench is located on the van’s bulkhead where it is fixed to a customised aluminium bar. The bench comprises an open floor compartment, three metal drawers with non-slip bottom mats and internal space dividers, and a work surface with a raised rear panel. This work top is not the only surface that can be used for maintenance and testing. A pull-out vice bench, installed between the drawers and the floor-level compartment, can be extended for use from the ground outside the van.
