A MAN TGE WITH RACKING FOR A GENERATOR MAINTENANCE FIRM

Even emergencies can be handled efficiently with a well-equipped van

Technical assistance can be scheduled or provided on call. In the second of these scenarios, it usually comes in response to an emergency, as some breakdowns can have serious consequences.

Today we are looking at van with a racking system designed to maintain and repair generators, a niche service in which the management of emergencies plays a key role. Generator sets are used to avoid the inconvenience and loss of production that power outages can cause, so it goes without saying that, if the generator itself breaks down, all work is brought to a standstill and repairs become extremely urgent.

Service engineers called in to deal with such cases must arrive, assess the problem and resolve it as quickly as possible. To be sure of doing so, they must have everything they need within easy reach in their van. A disorganised van would slow down fault diagnosis and turn the job into a nightmare, increasing repair times along with the stress on all the parties involved.

This potential problem can be eradicated by installing Syncro System van racking. Syncro technicians have the expertise needed to fully customise racking solutions in order to maximise the speed and efficiency of van users.

The company we are talking about today serves the area around Ponte di Piave, in the Italian province of Treviso, and has purchased a MAN TGE L3 H3. This van boasts a generous cargo compartment that is tall enough to allow operators to move around standing up, and its length and width place very few limits on the racking that can be installed. Syncro’s experts have transformed this vehicle into a fully equipped mobile workshop with racking on both sides and a well-equipped work area on the left. Before installing the racking itself, they protected the van’s interior with specially shaped, pre-drilled liners.

The floor is protected by a liner made from marble-look plywood, complete with protective edge profiles at the doors and recessed cups that permit use of the original anchor rings, all made from stainless steel.

The walls are protected by galvanised steel panels painted in an attractive grey. The arrangement of the racking leaves a large central corridor, facilitating access to the work area and all the storage elements.

The work area on the left of the MAN TGE

The operations centre of this MAN TGE is to be found on the left wall.

  • The work area is conveniently located near the rear doors and consists of a marble-look plywood work surface with raised edges at the sides and back, three pull-out trays for metal cases, four drawers with non-slip mats and internal dividers, and a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door. At the top of the wall above the work bench is a cabinet containing 10 removable, tilting transparent containers.
  • The racking column towards the front of the van forms a storage area. It consists of a sealed tray with a bottom grille for transporting liquids at floor level, four metal drawers, two shelves with lift-and-rotate doors and one with a top-pivot door, a configurable shelf, and finally another MultiBox cabinet with 12 pull-out transparent containers.

The two columns are linked by a full-length top tray for carrying long items. On this side of the van, Syncro has also found place for some of the accessories requested by the customer. There is a small Syncroblock bar with hooks and strap, a paper roll holder accessible from the ground outside the van, four spray can racks and an LED tube light installed under the wall-mounted cabinet to illuminate the work bench. Other LED tube lights, fixed to the roof cross-members, ensure uniform illumination throughout the van.

Logistics and ergonomics combined on the right of the MAN TGE

The owner of this MAN TGE for servicing generators told Syncro he needed to carry a large number of spare parts and tools in order to be ready for almost any emergency.

However, everything had to be carried in a way that avoided cluttering up the central corridor because two operators often need to work inside the van at the same time, one undertaking repairs at the bench while the moves around picking out parts for work inside the factory. The solution was simple: compact, space-saving racking with nothing protruding into the corridor, and small pull-out drawers and trays. The racking on this side also includes a deeper drawer unit, but this opens towards the side door in a way that makes the drawers accessible from the ground.

In all, this column of racking provides:

  • a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door
  • four case trays
  • four drawers
  • three configurable shelves
  • a shelf with ten removable plastic containers

The racking side panel facing the rear doors has been equipped with a number of useful accessories, including a fold-away vice bench complete with metal vice, a storage pocket and a fire extinguisher bracket. A first aid kit has been added on the side panel facing the sliding door, where the sideways-opening drawer unit is installed.

Turning the bulkhead into a “safe haven”

The easiest way to load cargo into this MAN TGE is through the side door, where material can easily be slid forward and placed against the bulkhead.

Two Syncroblock bars with a total of six cable holders provide additional carrying capacity here.
