A DUCATO RACKING SOLUTION FOR A MAINTENANCE SERVICE

The basis of efficient maintenance

Every day is different for the employees of a public authority maintenance service. You may have to repair or replace public lighting, fix damaged fences and deal with a water leak all in one day, doing the jobs of an electrician, blacksmith, plumber and handyman within just a few hours.

In situations like these, a professional racking system is what makes the difference between doing the job properly and bodging it. With a custom-equipped van:

  • Organisation = speed. If every tool, instrument and spare part has its own place in a dedicated storage section, you don’t waste time searching for it!
  • Versatility = autonomy. With a smart, rational use of space, you can carry everything you need with you and not have to load and unload repeatedly. The result is fewer returns to base, less backlog, and more problems solved in less time.
  • Protection = savings. When tools and materials are stored in secure compartments or held in place by tested and guaranteed cargo retention systems, everything lasts longer. Interior liners also extend the service life of your van. This means less unnecessary expense and more money for investing in maintenance!

On this page we take a look at a Fiat Ducato fitted out by Syncro System for a provincial council’s maintenance service.

The photos on this page show a Fiat Ducato L2 H2 that Syncro System transformed into a mobile workshop to suit the needs of a local authority that uses the van for infrastructure maintenance in the area for which it is responsible.

The solution is based on a 2+1 scheme: racking on two sides and cargo carrying accessories on the third.

Most of the interior has been lined to prevent dents and scratches to the original sheet metal. The floor is protected by a marble-look plywood floor liner with stainless-steel edge profiles. The same material also protects the bulkhead, while the side walls are lined with panels of grey painted galvanized steel.

The work area and shelving on the left of the Ducato

The left of this maintenance service’s Ducato is divided into two parts: a work area near the rear doors, and a storage area made up of open shelving for materials and consumables towards the front of the van.

The work area: This consists of a floor-level compartment with a patented lift-and-rotate door, four metal drawers with non-slip bottom mats and vertical dividers, and a marble-look plywood work surface with a raised back to stop objects from falling down behind. The bench is illuminated by an LED tube light fixed to the underside of the top tray. Another three LED tube lights are attached to the roof cross-members. A paper roll holder and a metal storage pocket have been fixed to the rear-facing side panel.

The storage area: Here we find a strap-type floor-level case compartment, five configurable shelves and a full-length top tray with a door at the rear, for carrying particularly long objects.

The Ducato’s mobile warehouse

The right of the Ducato is reserved entirely for the storage of all the spare parts, fasteners and other materials needed for various kinds of maintenance work, with the addition of a second work surface in the form of a fold-away vice bench, complete with vice, at the rear doors.

Storage area consists of:

  • a floor-level compartment over the wheel arch, partly enclosed by a lift-and-rotate door
  • one metal drawer and two pull-out case trays
  • three shelves with space dividers and lift-and-rotate doors
  • MultiBox cabinets, one with ten pull-out transparent containers and another above it with five tilting containers
  • a bar rack, on the side of the racking facing the side door.

The Ducato’s bulkhead: accessories for maximum versatility

How can you make the most of space at the bulkhead without cluttering up the interior? The solution most frequently recommended by Syncro, especially when the two sides of the van are occupied by racking, is to install cargo retaining accessories.

The equipment installed in this Ducato includes two Syncroblock bar, one at the bottom with hooks and straps, another at the top with adjustable telescopic hooks.

If you want a fully customised van to optimise your maintenance work, Syncro has the solution you need. We have specialised exclusively in van equipment since 1996.
