A DUCATO L2 H1 FOR AN ELECTRICIAN

A Syncro racking solution in an electrician’s Ducato

When your racking outlasts your van, Syncro’s modular design protects your investment!

Maybe you’ve had an accident. Or perhaps your van has a problem that can’t be repaired economically. Or maybe you just want to upgrade to a newer model.

For whatever reason you decide to change your van, the same the question always arises: “What about the racking? Will that all have to be renewed too?”

If your racking system is from Syncro System, the answer may depend on circumstances, but generally speaking it is a definite no! Syncro racking and accessories are modular, backwards-compatible and made from extremely tough materials, so they can easily outlast your van. The possible scenarios are as follows:

  • A serious accident damages the cargo compartment. Some components can, perhaps, be retrieved and used again: That’s exactly what happened with the van described on this page!
  • An accident has damaged some of the racking. In this case, the undamaged items can be removed and transferred to the new van. All that is needed is to adapt the fixing points to the design of the new van.
  • You decide to change your van for a newer model, or your needs change. This is the situation that leaves most room for manoeuvre. Drawers, shelves, accessories… virtually everything can be transferred, and only minimal modifications are needed to accommodate the differences in the design of new vehicle.

An electrician’s Fiat Ducato that integrates old and new racking

The owner of the Fiat Ducato seen on this page is an electrician who found himself faced with the first of the scenarios described above: his old van had to be scrapped as a result of a serious accident. Only two components from the damaged vehicle remained serviceable: a vice bench and a silicone cartridge rack. These were recovered and included in the new racking system installed in the electrician’s new van.

This Ducato L2 H1 has racking on both sides, but the configuration on the right is designed to save as much floor space as possible. The bulkhead has been left almost completely free and equipped only with lashing accessories and a suspended cabinet at the top.

A thousand ways to fit out a Ducato

First of all, the liners!

Your van’s bodywork needs protection, and this becomes painfully obvious if you are involved in an accident. In many cases (see this case study, for example), racking that is securely anchored to the liners can still hold contents in place and prevent additional damage to the vehicle and potential injury to road users.

The floor of this Ducato is protected by a liner made from marble-look plywood. The same material has also been used to cover the bottom section of the bulkhead. The walls are protected by galvanised and painted steel panels.

Storage and a work area on the left of the Ducato

While the left of this Ducato is equipped with new racking, two items from the old system have also been included: the silicone cartridge rack (now complemented by a new spray can rack), and the pull-out bench with metal vice. The racking itself is made up of:

With Syncro you really can reduce footprint without reducing capacity!

The racking on the Ducato’s right wall has a particularly small footprint. The configuration consists of Multibox cabinets containing 20 large tilting and removable containers and 10 smaller ones. The racking extends no further than the wheel arch.

A bar rack with a metal flange and strap has been installed in the gap between the racking and the rear door.

The bulkhead: a precious space

The bulkhead serves as a third surface for racking and accessories. In this Ducato it is equipped with two Syncroblock slider bars with hooks and lashing straps and with a suspended cabinet of eight tilting transparent containers at the very top.

On the roof cross-members, Syncro has also installed two LED tube lights to ensure effective illumination of the loadspace.
