Any van, with the right racking, can become suited to the needs of any trade. This is exactly what Syncro System specialises in: turning a commercial vehicle into a fully equipped mobile workshop tailored to a specific customer's requirements.

The racking project takes into account, first of all, the size of the van and the design of its interior. Syncro can draw on a catalogue of modular, offset-mountable furniture that easily follows the curve of the walls in height, making use of every centimetre of available space. The interior linings, moreover, are cut to size for each model of every van, make by make: the fit is perfect, so installation takes very little time.

In the example examined on this page we're looking at a small van, the Renault Kangoo, adapted to the needs of a boiler technician. Let's look together at the steps of the conversion.

Stage 1: linings

After the consultation to establish the customer's racking requirements, the first stage follows: protecting the van's interior surfaces. In this case the only work of this kind was fitting a floor liner made of resin-coated marine plywood over the Kangoo's original floor. The floor liner is made by gluing and pressing several layers of birch wood; phenolic glues are used, which are resistant to water and moisture.

The resin-coated finish provides a non-slip effect and an always-tidy appearance; besides being easy to clean, the surface features a speckled pattern in various shades of grey, ideal for hiding imperfections and small stains.

No other covering panels were fitted on the Kangoo, but on request Syncro can also cover the walls, the bulkhead, the doors, the roof and even the wheel arches with panelling in various materials.

Stage 2: van furniture

The racking of this Kangoo for a boiler technician is an example of simplicity and functionality. On the left wall, racking was fitted with three open shelves, each fitted with a non-slip mat and equipped with internal dividers for a further split of the space.

On the right side, the customer requested the installation of two adjoining units, choosing to occupy part of the side opening with the rear section of one of them, with the advantage of having a cupboard at floor level directly accessible from outside. These two units yielded three open shelving levels, a fourth top shelf running the full length, and three metal drawers with a recessed handle and automatic locking system when closed.

The last addition, extremely functional thanks also to the position chosen, is a wall unit with tilting, pull-out plastic bins fitted to the outer side of the right-hand unit. The advantage of the transparent container is particularly clear in these photos: the contents are immediately recognisable!

Stage 3 (optional): accessories and roof rack

In addition to the shelving and the floor liner, Syncro's technicians fitted this Kangoo with an aluminium cable reel holder and an aluminium sealant tube holder.

The two accessories were positioned on the side of the left-hand shelving, where they are easy to reach.
