A DAILY WITH RACKING FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION
An Iveco Daily for road construction, fitted out by Syncro
How to create a work area in your van
Many trades and professions require an in-van work area and this must have a stable, practical work surface to allow minor repairs and adjustments to be performed without having to return to base.
There is no single solution to this requirement. In fact there are at least three distinct approaches!
- Integrate a workbench into the racking. This is the most compact solution: a plywood work surface can be added to the racking on the left or right of the van. This does not need to occupy the full length of the racking and can be fully integrated with storage elements like shelves and drawers.
- Install a workbench on the bulkhead. In this configuration, the work surface, supported by a set of drawers, generally takes up all available space on the bulkhead. This solution keeps the work area separate from the racking and easily accessible through the side door.
- Install a fold-away worktop. This is the solution seen in these photos. The customer opted for a shelf that serves as a large, robust work surface, but that can be folded neatly away if the area is required to transport bulky materials.
The Iveco Daily L3 H2 for road construction
The van shown in the photos on this page is an Iveco Daily L3 H2 used to support road construction sites where heavy machinery operates. Both sides of the van have been furnished with racking of various types, while the bulkhead has been fitted with heavy-duty lashing systems and a fold-away workbench.
The entire interior of the van has been lined. The floor is protected by a marble-look plywood floor liner with steel edge profiles and two parallel rails have been recessed into the surface to hold cargo in place with hooks and straps.
The bulkhead lining is also made of marble-look plywood, while the panelling on the sides of the van is made of honeycomb polypropylene.

The left side of the Daily
The racking on the left of the Daily consists of:
- three floor-level compartments: the first, over the wheel arch, partly enclosed by a lift-and-rotate door, the second equipped with a sealed, stainless steel tray with bottom grille for transporting cans of oil and other liquids, the third, next to the bulkhead, fitted with a hook and strap lashing system
- eight drawers with non-slip bottom mats and internal space dividers
- nine shelves, including one with an Ecoflow Delta 2 power station and Alternator Charger installed in a dedicated frame
- accessories: a Schuko socket installed between the racking and the rear door, and a bar rack with strap fixed to the rear-facing side panel of the racking.
Syncro racking on the right of the Daily
The right of this Daily for road construction has been equipped with similar care. The compartment around the wheel arch is delimited by a raised bottom profile. Immediately above is a case compartment with a lashing strap. Then comes one configurable shelf and two specially adapted shelves with a total of 17 removable plastic containers. At the very top is a Multibox cabinet with 6 tilting transparent containers. The rear-facing side panel of this racking column is equipped with a fold-away vice bench complete with integrated support and metal vice. Just above this is a paper roll holder, an essential addition to any van and one of the most popular accessories with Syncro System cu
The Daily’s bulkhead work area: just one possible solution
The bulkhead of this Daily is equipped to meet two different needs. Two ROTM rails with heavy duty lashing straps have been added at the top and bottom and a fold-away work surface in marble-look plywood has been installed about half-way up.
This can be used in two ways. Folded down, it takes up no space at all and leaves the entire are available for transporting bulky loads. In horizontal position, it can be used to carry boxes or other medium-size loads, or as a practical and robust workbench. The work area is brightly lit by an LED spotlight located at the top of the left wall near the bulkhead while the interior as a whole is lit by LED tube lights under the roof.
