RACKING FOR A MULTI-UTILITY COMPANY IN AN IVECO DAILY

An Iveco Daily with Syncro racking for a multi-utility company

Operational autonomy by Syncro

In certain situations, having a fully autonomous van makes the difference between solving a problem quickly on the spot and having to postpone the work to return to the workshop! But what exactly does “autonomy” mean? For this van it means:

  • Electrical energy for power tools, laptops, diagnostic instruments and lighting.
  • An integrated charging system for re-charging batteries on the move.
  • Independent lighting for working at night and in poor lighting conditions.
  • An on-board compressor to drive compressed air tools.
  • A 200 kg electric hoist.
  • An air conditioning unit on the roof.
  • A workbench for diagnosing, testing and repairing equipment.
  • Organised storage for all the materials and spares you need, to avoid having to go back home for stock.

A good example of autonomy: an Iveco Daily for a multi-utility company

To illustrate what real autonomy means, today we are looking at an Iveco Daily L3 H2 that Syncro System fitted out for a multi-utility company that maintains water, light, gas and waste infrastructures.

The van has been converted into a fully autonomous mobile workshop. Racking has been installed on all three interior walls and a large number of accessories have been added to make the work of users considerably easier. Let’s take a closer look, starting with the liners.

Liners for a mobile workshop in an Iveco Daily

When a van is subject to intensive use in challenging conditions, good liners are particularly important to prevent rapid deterioration of the bodywork.

All internal surfaces of this Daily are well protected. The floor is covered by a floor liner in aluminium tread plate; the bulkhead is protected by custom-made panels of marble-look plywood; the walls, doors and roof are all lined with panels of galvanized steel, painted in an elegant grey.

The racking on the left of the Daily: everything needed for autonomy

The complexity of the racking on this side of the van reflects the varying nature of the work the vehicle has to perform.

The area nearest the rear doors consists only of a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door and a panel of marble-look plywood on top to support heavy items. Cargo can be held securely in place here by two retaining systems on the wall, consisting of two Syncroblock bars with movable attachments and lashing straps.

The remainder of the wall is occupied by a second floor-level compartment equipped with a strap-type case transport kit, two plain shelves with marble-look plywood surfaces, four configurable shelves and a top tray with a door at the rear.

Inside the racking on this side are:

  • a 20 litre compressed air tank in the enclosed floor-level compartment
  • a compressor pump head in the smaller of the plain shelves
  • a hose reel connected to the compressor, fixed to the rear-facing racking side panel
  • an Ecoflow Delta 3 Pro power station strapped to a dedicated tray in the larger plan shelf, along with an 800 W alternator charger.

The right of the Daily: a large and functional mobile warehouse

This side of the van provides floor-to-roof storage. Starting at the bottom we have a floor-level compartment with a lift-up door, six metal drawers with non-slip mats and internal dividers, and three configurable shelves partly enclosed by Syncro’s patented lift-and-rotate doors.

A bar rack with metal flange and strap is attached to the rear-facing side panel, while the space between the racking and rear doors is occupied by a cantilever hoist with a load capacity of 200 kg – extremely useful for loading and unloading heavy goods without risk of injury.

The work area on the bulkhead

The racking at the bulkhead serves two purposes: it contains a large stainless-steel tank (measuring 1,521 x 576 x 410 mm) complete with filling cap, drain cock and level window, and also serves as the base for a marble-look plywood workbench with raised edges at the sides and rear. The bench is served by a metal pocket for documents and a spray can rack.

Under the tank is a winch, while above the bench, attached to a bracket, is a hose reel for the water hose connected to the tank.

The entire van is electrically wired and excellent lighting is ensured throughout by a number of LED tube lights under the roof. An LED spotlight at the rear doors also illuminates the ground behind the van.
