Every time Syncro System’s racking experts talk to a new customer, the first thing they do is list the specific needs that will make that particular racking system unique. In this case, the customer is a construction company and the van chosen as travelling companion is a Volkswagen Crafter L3 H3.

To be really useful for this type of work, a van needs to serve as a mobile operations centre and provide autonomy, organisation and versatility.

5 non-negotiable needs for a construction business

Let’s pair the needs of a commercial vehicle owned by a building firm with the solutions proposed by Syncro for the van seen in these photos.

1. Protect the vehicle from rapid wear and tear on the construction site.

Solution: Tough, long-lasting interior liners – an investment that preserves the resale value of the vehicle over time.

2. Store electrical tools and components in an orderly but accessible way.

Solution: A smart mix of open and closed compartments and customised cargo carrying accessories.

3. Carry awkward, long items.

Solution: A full-length top tray installed under the roof to exploit the full height of this H3 variant.

4. Autonomous operation.

Solution: An Ecoflow power station, wiring system, compressor, and water tanks.

5. Work on board, in a functional and well-lit space.

Solution: A workbench with dedicated lighting and power sockets.

Let’s take a closer look at this racking system.

Liners for the building firm’s Crafter

Construction work inevitably causes rapid wear and tear on a van due to the need to carry heavy materials that may have sharp edges or contain corrosive substances.

This makes bodywork protection essential if you want your van to last.

The floor of this Crafter is covered with an aluminium tread plate floor liner while the walls are protected by galvanised and painted steel panels finished in an attractive grey. The wheel arches have been left uncovered because they are effectively protected by the racking.

A custom warehouse on the left of the Crafter

The left of this Crafter is divided into two areas. The area to the rear is dedicated to the storage of tools and small items while the area near the bulkhead has been left clear and equipped with cargo lashing systems to secure bulky materials.

The racking

This starts with a floor-level compartment partly enclosed by a bottom profile and two small shelves. The central section consists of two configurable shelves and a 760 mm rearward-opening drawer unit that can be accessed directly from the ground.

Further up are another three shelves. Like all the shelves on this side, these are equipped with non-slip mats and can be configured by adding internal space dividers. At the very top is a full-length top tray with a fold-down door at the rear for carrying particularly long objects.

The racking side panel is equipped with two reels, one for a compressed air line and the other for electrical power cable.

Accessories section

This area is delimited at the top by the full-length top tray. It has been equipped with two Syncroblock bars: one at mid-height with hooks and lashing straps, one at the top with adjustable telescopic hooks.

The right side: storage and functionality

At the bottom, the racking on the right mirrors that on the left, with a compartment over the wheel arch and two small shelves.

The central section consists of two open shelves. One is mounted with the flanges facing up and contains a tray with lashing strap in which an Ecoflow power station is installed. The other has its flanges facing down and houses a compressor pump head, the air tanks for which are installed underneath the van.

Three configurable shelves complete the racking at the top. The rear-facing side panel is fitted with a fold-away bench with telescopic support and vice, a paper roll holder, and a grab handle for easier access to the van.

The bulkhead: a practical and accessible work area

The Crafter’s bulkhead has been fitted out as the van’s work area. It features a work surface in marble-look plywood supported by a base that consists of a floor-level compartment with a lift-and-rotate door, and above it four metal drawers and two stainless-steel tanks with level windows and taps.

A shelf has been fixed to the top of the bulkhead over the workbench.
