A VW CRAFTER WITH SYNCRO RACKING FOR A PLUMBER
A Crafter for a plumber, fitted out by Syncro
What does a professional racking system mean for a plumber?
When a plumber enters a house to fix a leaking pipe or install a shower, he brings with him much more than his tools.
Order, method and reliability are the secrets of success! The customer not only sees the finished job, but also notices how the craftsman works, how long he takes, and what level of control he has over the situation. Customer fidelity begins with a well organised van, even before the job is done.
A rationally and smartly equipped van is far more than a means of transport. It is a travelling workplace that conveys your professionalism, provided every tool has its own place, everything is instantly accessible when needed, and no time is wasted. With a well-equipped van, even a last-minute call-out can be tackled systematically and efficiently.
The van on this page is a great example of a Syncro System mobile workshop designed to provide practical support for a plumber. This racking solution is installed in a Volkswagen Crafter L3 H3.
A VW Crafter L3 H3 for a plumber
When Syncro System’s racking experts start designing a new mobile workshop, they always consider two key aspects: the customer’s requirements and the dimensions of the van involved.
In the case of this VW Crafter, the customer stressed the need for a large number of open and enclosed compartments to safely transport spare parts, frequently needed materials, tools and sundries. The project was designed around these needs. Both side walls are equipped with racking to serve as a travelling warehouse while the bulkhead is reserved for carrying the larger items of cargo. In response to the van’s owner’s specific request, no workbench was installed in this case – not even a vice bench – though most plumbers insist on having one.

The liners in the plumber’s Crafter
All vans should be properly lined. If your van’s interior is not effectively protected, loading and unloading operations can easily lead to dents and scratches in its thin sheet metal bodywork, favouring the formation of rust.
In the Crafter seen on this page, the floor is covered with a plywood floor liner with a marble-look surface, the bulkhead is protected by panels of the same material, arranged to follow the contours of the surface, and the walls are lined with panels of lightweight honeycomb polypropylene.

The left of the Crafter: a complete travelling warehouse
The left of this Crafter is entirely occupied by racking, in both length and height.
- At floor level we have two compartments. The first, over the wheel arch, is partially enclosed by a patented lift-and-rotate door. The second open compartment towards the front of the van is equipped with a case transport kit, complete with lashing strap and end plate.
- Moving up, we have four pull-out trays accommodating one metal tool case each.
- Then there are seven metal drawers, all equipped with non-slip bottom mats and all customisable with modular plastic dividers or trays.
- Out of a total of six shelves, four are open configurable types with mats and dividers, one is enclosed by a top-pivot door, and the last, also of the configurable type, is very narrow but quite tall.
- There is also a removable swing-out bin to keep the van clean at all times.
- A van locker with a secure key-lock and customised interior provides a safe and practical place to keep work clothes and shoes, and to store expensive equipment where it cannot be seen by prying eyes.
- At the top of the racking is a full-length top tray with a door at the rear, ideal for carrying long objects.
The right of the Crafter: large, spacious shelves
The configuration on the right of this plumber’s Crafter consists mainly of large, open shelving. Starting from the bottom, we have a floor-level compartment that is partially enclosed by a lift-and-rotate door. Above this is an open shelf with a robust marble-look plywood surface and a Syncroblock bar with hook and strap lashing systems fixed to the wall at the back. Further up again is another open shelf with a lashing strap at the front. The column ends with two configurable shelves at the top.

At the side door, the forward-facing side panel is equipped with a paper roll holder and a silicone tube rack. The side panel facing the rear doors is fitted with a bar rack with lashing strap and a spray can rack.
