A COMPARISON BETWEEN COURIER AND TRAFIC FOR ELECTRICIANS

Two electricians’ racking systems compared

The electrician’s van: compact, well-equipped and functional

“I’m sorry, I’ve got go back to get a part.” How many times have you had to repeat these words? Too many, we’re sure, because when you arrive at your customer’s premises and realise that you are missing the connector, part or cable you need to finish the job, your day is already ruined. You waste time, lose face, and probably have to postpone the next job too.

If you’re an electrician, a good van racking system can eliminate the need to say these words ever again. With a custom racking solution from Syncro System, this objective is at your fingertips!

Comparing a Courier and Trafic L1 H1 for two electricians: similar vans, different choices

Since 1996, Syncro System has fitted out thousands of vans for electricians. On this page we compare two solutions installed in a Courier and a Trafic, both L1 H1 variants. The two vans are similar in size, both compact and ideal for manoeuvring through city streets or tackling narrow mountain roads.

Both are fitted with Syncro racking on the left wall only. All remaining surfaces have been left free, except for a few cargo retaining accessories.

Despite these similarities, the vast range of items in the Syncro catalogue and the amazing flexibility of Syncro racking has allowed the configuration these two racking systems to differ radically in order to meet the specific needs of both customers. Let’s take a closer look.

The first step in the job: installing van liners

As always, the first stage in these racking projects was to protect the interior against dents and scratches. In both the Courier and Trafic, the floor has been covered with a floor liner made from marble-look plywood with stainless-steel anchor ring cups and edge profiles. Both customers also requested wall liners, and both chose the lightest material available for this purpose, honeycomb polypropylene.

Courier and Trafic: racking on one side only

The left wall of both vans is entirely occupied by racking.

Courier L1 H1

In this van, the single racking column starts at floor level with a compartment for transporting cases, equipped with a special kit consisting of an end plate, hooks, strap and shuttle. The central section of the column is divided into two parts. On the left are three pull-out trays with Systainer3 stackable cases. On the right are three metal drawers with anti-slip bottom mats and internal dividers. At the top is a shelf with five removable plastic containers.

Trafic L1 H1

The racking in this van consists of two columns arranged side by side. The rearmost column consists of a floor-level compartment with a patented lift-and-rotate door, a pull-out tray with two metal cases, two drawers and two configurable shelves. The front column consists of a floor-level compartment with a lashing strap at the front and three more shelves. A full-length tray for carrying long objects extends over both columns at the top. A paper roll holder has been fixed to the racking side panel at the rear doors.

The advantages of leaving walls free

No bulky racking or accessories have been installed, either on the right wall or on the bulkhead of these two vans.

This is no coincidence. The decision made by the electricians who own the Courier and the Trafic offers a number of advantages:

  • Maximum load flexibility: even bulky materials can be carried without having to change the configuration of the racking or zigzag between opposite columns.
  • Faster loading and unloading: easy access and unrestricted movement when handling bulky items mean less risk of damage to the racking and bodywork.
  • Increased payload: the absence of racking allows you to carry more weight – something particularly useful if you often need to transport heavy items.
  • Improved ergonomics: moving around in the van is far easier and there is also less risk of injury.

Looking more closely, of the two vans, only the Courier has been partially equipped with accessories: a cable holder at the top of the right wall and a Syncroblock slider bar with hooks and lashing straps in the centre of the bulkhead.
