A COMPARISON OF DUCATO VANS FOR DIFFERENT JOBS
Fiat Ducato racking systems compared
How a customised racking system up is born: the considerations behind each van
On this page we present two identical vans with completely different racking systems. One look is enough to tell you that the ideal racking system does not depend on the van, but on the person who uses it.
All Syncro System transformations start with a consulting phase in which our technical experts ask a series of precise questions. What tools do you use on a daily basis? What parts do you usually carry, and how many of them? Do you need to work inside the van or do you only need it to transport materials and equipment? How many bulky items do you need to carry? How often do you need to access your racking during a typical working day? Syncro’s racking experts then propose radically different designs depending on the answers you give.
Syncro’s method is based on listening to you, the customer. That is why the end result is always perfectly suited to your way of working, as confirmed by a CERVED survey which found over 99% of our customers fully satisfied!
Let’s take a closer look at how these two solutions compare.
Two Fiat Ducato L3 H2 vans: one for an HVAC service, one for roadside assistance
The two vehicles shown on this page are both Fiat Ducato vans in the same L3 H2 variant but the customers concerned use them for very different purposes. The first van is used to install and service industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The second is used to provide roadside assistance for heavy goods vehicles.
Both users wanted racking on both sides of the van, but with different dimensions and objectives. Only the second van makes use of the bulkhead as well.
Ducato 1 is fitted with a full set of liners, with an aluminium chequer plate floor liner and bulkhead panels, and grey, galvanised, painted steel panelling on the walls.
The same choice was made for the walls of Ducato 2 but in this case the floor is covered in marble-look plywood and the bulkhead has been left unprotected.

The left of the Ducato: storage or work area
The configurations of these two side walls differ in height, depth and length, with the racking in the first Ducato being smaller in every dimension. In addition, the racking is divided into storage and work areas only in the second van.
Ducato 1
In this case, only the section of wall towards the back of the van has been equipped with racking. The section near the bulkhead is equipped only with a Syncroblock slider bar and a strap-type lashing system.
The racking itself comprises two floor-level compartments with lift-up doors, two shelves partially enclosed by lift-and-rotate doors and four other shelves with top-pivot doors. At the top, the racking is covered by marble-look plywood panels, providing a firm, flat surface for placing items. A paper roll holder has been fixed to the top of the wall.
Ducato 2
In this van, racking occupies the entire wall. The section near the rear doors has been turned into a work area, with a plywood workbench and vice supported by a set of eight metal drawers and a floor-level compartment enclosed by a lift-up door. Serving this area are a strip of power sockets, a paper roll holder and a wall-mounted cabinet of six pull-out transparent containers.
The storage area consists of another three metal drawers, a shelf with a lift-and-rotate door housing an Ecoflow power station with smart charger, four configurable shelves and two stainless-steel trays with grilles in the bottom. The tray on the floor is equipped with a case transport kit with shuttle, lashing strap and end plate to hold jerry cans securely in place. At the very top are specially shaped shelves with ten removable plastic containers.
The right of the Ducato: enclosed or open storage?
There’s no standard answer! It all depends on what you expect to carry!
In Ducato 1, all eight shelves are enclosed by top-pivot doors while the floor-level compartments are fitted with lift-up doors. At the top are seven tilting and removable transparent containers.
In Ducato 2, in addition to the floor-level compartment with door, there are three open configurable shelves and three rows of pull-out transparent containers providing a total of 24 elements. The rear-facing side panel is equipped with a metal storage pocket and two spray can racks.
The Ducato’s bulkhead
In Ducato 1 the bulkhead is lined but not equipped with any accessories. In Ducato 2 it is not lined but is equipped with three parallel Syncroblock bars, of which the top two are fitted with movable telescopic hooks while the bottom one is fitted with hook and strap lashing systems.
Both Ducatos are equipped with additional lighting. The first has a pair of LED tube lights installed at 45 degrees to the roof cross-members while the second has three lights under the roof and one dedicated to the work area.
