The real-world situations our customers describe inspire us to develop new products and design unique racking systems.

Imagine a road maintenance van arriving at a site that needs urgent repairs involving heavy equipment like welders, compactors or pneumatic drills. Finding that your generator or compressor is hidden behind piles of assorted materials, or that you have to unload the van before you can power your equipment up means wasting valuable time and starting the day off on the wrong foot.

Situations like this give rise to an obvious question: how can you carry the bulky equipment you need without renouncing racking and ending up with piles of stuff on the floor?

This page illustrates one possible solution. The van in question is a Mercedes Sprinter L2 H2 owned by a road maintenance firm.

Van racking for road maintenance: examples

Bullet-proof liners for the Sprinter

If loading and unloading heavy materials is a daily job, protecting the interior of your van against dents and scratches is particularly important.

The type of work you use your van for is another factor to consider. Road maintenance crews, for example, have to work in mud and gravel almost every day. If this is carried into the van, it can ruin the sheet metal of the floor in next to no time.

To prevent this Mercedes Sprinter suffering damage of this kind, the Syncro team has fitted a robust floor liner in aluminium tread plate and covered the walls with galvanised and painted steel panelling. The bulkhead has been lined with specially shaped marble-look plywood panels.

Shelves and a sealed tray on the left of the Sprinter

The racking on the left of this van consists of:

The front of the racking is equipped with two milled rails with lashing straps while the side panel is fitted with a paper roll holder and a spray can rack.

A multi-purpose area on the right of the Sprinter

The workshop area in this Sprinter is located on the right. Standing on a floor-level compartment through which the hydraulic connections are routed, is a multi-purpose hydraulic power unit driven from the gearbox PTO and integrating a single-phase generator, a compressor and connections for tools. This machine has been fitted with custom-made aluminium profiles to support a marble-look plywood worktop on which a metal vice with a rotating base is mounted.

Alongside the power unit is a column of racking containing four metal drawers and three shelves. A first aid kit is mounted on the side panel.

The section of wall between the worktop and the rear door is equipped with a custom-made pneumatic drill holder. This consists of a wall-mounted rack made from aluminium profiles, a section of heavy-duty rail and a robust lashing strap, and a hollow steel cylinder on the floor.

Other important accessories have been installed in this Sprinter too: a third Syncroblock bar with lashing strap on the bulkhead, LED tube lights under the roof, and a bar rack with flange and strap on the racking side panel near the side door.

Maximum versatility from Syncro racking

This Sprinter clearly demonstrates how the modular design of Syncro racking allows fully customised solutions to be designed. Rather than taking up valuable floor space, the combined hydraulic power unit and compressor-generator serves as a load-bearing base for a work surface located at a convenient height.

Another example of versatility is the pneumatic drill holder, which is designed to ensure that even this heavy and awkwardly shaped piece of equipment is securely stowed and does not hinder movement inside the van or endanger the safety of operators.
