A SCUDO RACKING SYSTEM FOR AN AIR CONDITIONING SERVICE
A Fiat Scudo L2 H1 for servicing air conditioners
A change of function: using the side door for racking
To fit out a van properly means optimising all available space to suit the customer's needs as well as the shape and size of the vehicle. Thanks to Syncro’s versatile, modular system, you can not only combine racking components exactly as you need but even use available space in innovative ways.
The sliding side door is nearly always used to provide access to the van and to load and unload cargo. But Syncro’s flexible design philosophy allows the door area to be used instead as a location for racking that can be accessed directly from the ground. Renouncing use of the door as an entrance to the cargo compartment offers a number of significant advantages, including easy access to frequently used items from outside the van. This solution is often requested by owners of small to medium-sized vans in which limited interior height (generally around 1.40 meters) makes climbing inside difficult and standing up impossible. By eliminating the need to climb on board for most tasks, this solution also frees up the centre of the floor for transporting bulky cargo.
The Fiat Scudo L2 H1 for an air conditioning service shown in these photos was fitted out by Syncro for a customer who chose precisely this design solution. So, let’s examine this racking system in greater detail.
The Fiat Scudo with Syncro racking for servicing air conditioners
The van shown on this page is a great example of the solution described above. It is a compact Fiat Scudo L2 H1 in which the central corridor frequently has to be used to transport indoor and outdoor air conditioning units. The limited length of the floor is one of the reasons why the bulkhead has been left completely clear.
The job done by the van’s owner requires a large number of tools, spare parts and fasteners to be carried. Ample storage has therefore been provided in the form of racking that occupies the full length and height of both side walls.
The floor is protected by a liner made from marble-look plywood with stainless-steel edge profiles.

The left side: the art of keeping small parts in order
If you are looking for a way to carry lots of small spares and frequently needed parts in perfect order, Syncro has the answer! The left side of this Scudo is dedicated to small parts storage and consists of:
- two MultiBox cabinets containing 12 pull-out transparent containers another two rows of MultiBox cabinets with a total of 14 tilting transparent containers
- three special shelves carrying 18 removable containers in blue plastic
- two floor-level compartments, one with a lift-up door, the other with a patented lift-and-rotate door
- a large hook, fixed to the racking side panel
The right side: storage for larger items
The Scudo’s right side is divided into three sections, each serving a specific purpose.
On the racking side panel facing the rear doors, Syncro has installed a fold-away vice bench. When extended, this provides a robust work surface for minor jobs, filling in documents and supporting a computer or tablet.
The first column of racking consists of a floor-level compartment with a hook and strap lashing system, two drawers and three configurable shelves.
The second column visible inside the van is actually the back of the racking that is accessible from the ground outside. The only item here that is usable from inside the van is a Syncroblock bar with hooks and strap, complementing an identical bar fixed to the van’s bulkhead.
The special solution: racking accessible from the ground
The outward-facing arrangement of the second column of right-side racking allows the user to access the tool cases and parts he needs most frequently without having to climb on board. This simple solution saves a great deal of time and effort, especially when an action has to be performed dozens of times a day.
The compartment at floor level has been left empty so that cargo can be loaded and unloaded through it.
Above are four pull-out trays housing three metal tool cases and a plastic component case. The remainder of the column is occupied by four shelves, two small ones on the left and two larger ones at the top.
