5 mistakes to avoid when fitting out your van

Decades of experience in van racking has taught Syncro System that, in addition to knowing what to install, you also need to know what mistakes to avoid if you want to achieve satisfactory results.

Here are the five most common mistakes:

1. Failing to consider the weight of the racking. Avoid carrying things in your van just because “they might come in handy”. It’s far better to select what you really need. And always choose Syncro racking because it is made from tough but lightweight materials like aluminium, steel and PMMA.

2. Failing to exploit the full height of your van. Always make use of the full height of the load compartment, while keeping an eye on accessibility. This applies to all vans but is particularly important in the case of small vans, where every inch counts.

3. Thinking only of storage and forgetting to provide a work area. Your van can do more than just carry tools, materials and spare parts. It can also serve as a mobile workshop, so don’t forget to install electrical sockets, lighting and a work bench. Choose a model that can be extended only when needed if space is short.

4. Failing to think about the future. The nature of your work and your professional needs may change in future. A modular racking system from Syncro lets you add or replace items at any time, helping you to keep pace with change!

5. Doing without bodywork protection. The walls, doors, roof and floor of your van are extremely vulnerable to dents, scratches and impact damage. Skimping on liners can lead to extremely expensive bodywork repairs and cause your van to lose its resale value rapidly. It’s far better to prevent damage in advance. Bodywork protection only requires a small investment.

Let’s move on now to look at a van whose owner worked closely with Syncro’s experts to design a fully customised racking solution that avoids all these mistakes!

The van on this page is a compact Mercedes Vito L2 H1 that Syncro System fitted out for a company that supplies, installs and services new and used waste disposal plants. To begin with, the van’s interior was protected by installing a floor liner made from marble-look plywood with stainless steel edge protectors to prevent the ingress of damp and dirt. The walls were then fitted with panels of galvanised and painted steel sheet, finished in grey. All Syncro liners are pre-shaped and pre-drilled at the company’s factory in the Veneto region of Italy. ù

Racking has been installed on both sides of the vehicle while the bulkhead has been equipped only with cargo retaining accessories.

Let’s take a closer look.

Other racking solutions for the Vito

The left of the waste disposal firm’s Vito: autonomy and a work area

The left side of this Mercedes Vito is divided into two sections.

The rear section

This area is designed to perform two separate functions: storage, in the form of cleverly arranged elements that occupy the full height of the wall from floor to roof, and a work area in the form of a pull-out bench with metal vice, integrated in the racking. The storage area comprises a floor-level compartment over the wheel arch with a lift-up door, three large metal drawers and five smaller ones, and a top shelf, turned into a practical storage compartment by the addition of a patented lift-and-rotate door.

The forward section

This area of the racking is designed to accommodate bulky cargo. It also houses the van’s autonomous power supply. The open floor-level compartment is equipped with a Syncroblock slider bar and lashing strap. Further up are two shelves, the first an open type equipped with an Ecoflow power station with alternator charger, the second a configurable type with a non-slip mat and internal space dividers.

The right of the Vito for servicing waste systems: floor to roof storage

The right of the Vito serves as a mobile warehouse for tools, accessories and spare parts. It partly replicates the configuration of the racking on the opposite side but the three highest levels are occupied by Multibox cabinets that provide a total of fifteen pull-out transparent containers. The column occupies the entire wall and makes use of every inch of vertical space.

Accessories: an important addition to the Vito’s racking system

Alone or in combination with a fully customised racking solution, accessories can transform your van into a truly great mobile workshop. In the Vito illustrated on this page, the accessories add important functionality. The Syncroblock bar, sliding attachments and lashing strap on the bulkhead allow even bulky cargo to be transported safely. The paper roll holder on the rear side panel of the left-side racking allows the van’s users to clean their hands and tools away from base.

You can always request other accessories to add to the walls, doors or racking even after you take delivery of your Syncro racking system. Thanks to the amazingly flexible and modular design of Syncro products, you can change the configuration of your racking and accessories, move items and add new ones at any time.
